AQUA II News                   Coach Tan

Great job to our AQUA II swimmers. Our swimmers swam well during the season. This upcoming summer season, I have few new practice plans for our swimmers and looking forward for upcoming summer season.

We are now going into long course season and we need to be well prepared to swim this season. The practice will include more endurance base swims and challenge sets. Also, we will be using heart rate to train. Based on each swimmer’s heart rate we can push train level even further to achieve better conditioning. Our swimmers can use their fingers to take their heart rate or purchase heart rate monitor, please see coach Tan for what type of heart rate monitor you need.

AQUA I News                     Coach Grady

More information can be found at
www.heritageaquaticteam.comWelcome back everyone from Spring Break! I hope all of you had lots of fun and are ready to swim faster!! Please bring the following items in your swimming bag to practice daily: swim goggles, fins, water bottle, running shoes, t-shirt, shorts, and an exercise towel. Long course season requires more endurance and stronger legs in kicking. Instead of turning every 25 yards you are swimming an additional 27.5 yards before turning. This requires more leg strength and stamina. This is the time to begin setting short range goals. Every journey begins with a first step. What are my goals this season? Write them down and share a copy with Coach Grady. Goals give you direction and a reason to work hard in practice! Every goal has to have an action plan. What is an action plan ? An action plan is the step by step program to achieve your goals. For example, if one of your goals is to improve your individual medley time, and you have a weak breaststroke leg, concentrate on improving your breaststroke kick and technique in practice. This may mean swimming more breaststroke sets then your favorite stroke-freestyle! That is okay-you are working on improving your weak stroke in the I.M.. Here is another example. If you are going to age up to 11-12 and you want to achieve a Junior Olympic time, then try training until 6:00p.m. instead of leaving at 5:30p.m.!The extra 30 minutes at the end of practice will increase your endurance and help you accomplish your goals. The key to improving is being consistent and working on the little finer points of technique. Am I doing my drills correctly or am I repeating my mistakes? When Coach Grady corrects my stroke, am I trying to make the changes he wants? Maybe I can come to four or five practices per week instead of two or three! Do not be afraid to set high goals for yourself! Do not be afraid to fail sometimes-ANY FAILURE IS A STEPPINGSTONE TO FURTHER SUCCESS..... REMEMBER OUR H.AT. MOTTO... THE BODY ACHIEVES WHAT THE MIND BELIEVES...WE BELIEVE.. I BELIEVE IN ALL OF OUR SWIMMERS!

AQUA I Beg. News              Coach Carole

I was happy to see our swimmers very excited about the blue vs. yellow meet…. It was fun and also a great practice/experience for my swimmers.  We will practice more diving as soon as the weather warms up. Strokes are much better! NEXT 8 AND UNDER MEET: Friday, April 18. In Pembroke Pines (will receive information on the week of the meet).

So far I have 5 children not going to this meet. (Lu family and Dawson family) Please make sure you let me know, with a written note, if unable to attend.  Thank you.  Still looking for volunteers for our own 8 and Under meet on May 9.  I have Mrs. Fajardo, Elliott Riches and  listed as volunteers so far. We will need at least a dozen or more. Thank you for your help. We are swimming all year round. Summer practices are at 4:00p.m. until 5:30p.m.

AQUA I News                     Coach Khris

Hello swimmers and parents! Spring is here! And hopefully warmer weather comes with it too! This spring we will be working a lot more on our stroke technique, starts, and turns. As well as are stamina with some longer distance sets.

I am glad with the swims we had on the Blue vs. Yellow meet, that we had last month and also congratulations to the Blue team for the win as well!!! A lot of our swimmers had best times in that dual meet. Good job!

Remember to try to get your own set of fins and goggles for practice. As well as a swim cap if you have longer hair. You can also buy an equipment bag and leave your fins in there hanging on the fence by the pool, that way you always know where they are and chances are that no one will use them.

I hope everyone has a good spring break and that you all are safe! Enjoy, relax and have fun! See you all soon!

NEW FGC Records!

At the Division II Time trials, Daniel Spas made last attempt to break Florida Gold Coast 11-12 records before turn 13. He went 23.10 in 50yard free (old record was 23.17) and 50.44 in 100 yards free (old record was 50.94) both records was set back in 1978! Jacob keeps in touch by calling  me on a regular basis.

Former swimmer

Another swimmer I met while we are visiting Isabelle Bouthillier in Ohio was Matthew Houllier who swam for me back in 1995-1999 at Fort Lauderdale Swim Team. Matthew is from Trinidad. He still continues to swim and is trying to qualify for Beijing Olympics this summer. He is a great Butterflyer and I worked with him at the aquatic center of Miami University in Oxford during our visit. He was an “All American Swimmer” during his high school season. Good Luck Matthew! Looking forward to hear from you  and  see  your  progress.

And also a big congrats to Chloe Grabow, Sean Laufer, Daniel and Kyle Lu and Tommy Windisch at the Div. 2 Champs as well! I am very happy to see our swimmers step up and have great swims! Like Tommy dropping 6.74 sec on his 100 free at div 2, Kyle dropping 4.25 sec on 100 free, Sean with a whopping  12.36 sec in the 100 free as well!. So far we have been doing very well all the meets we have gone to, with most swimmers dropping their times dramatically.

LET’S KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!!

I would also like to ask the parent and swimmer to make their best efforts to go to the swim meets with the team swim suit and team cap. And if you have the team shirt bring it to. AQUA II News                    Coach Tan

Our first meet of the 2008 was at Clearwater. Our swimmers had some good swims and many struggled from the winter break. It is normal for the first meet. Still, Melissa Cooper won the 100 Breaststroke and Chantal Bouthillier dropped over 30 sec. in 1650 Free. After the Clearwater meet we had a meet at Saint Andrews where our swimmers start to drop some times but since I was working on our swimmer’s endurance, our swimmers had lack of speed at the meet. Our swimmers trained about 6500 – 8000 yards per day with dryland exercise. I know the hard work will pay off during the upcoming swim meets. We are getting ready for not only one meet but several meets for different swimmers. In February, Division II Championships at Lake Lytal and Junior Olympic Championships at Coral Springs, Speedo Sectional and Junior National at Orlando in March. It is a long spring season for different swimmers. Our first big meet will be Division II meet at Lake Lytal. I am looking for many of our swimmers will advance to Junior Olympic following weekend. Our swimmers have been training very well. We missed some training due to the cold weather during new year week but our swimmers has trained well during the month of January. Good luck to all the swimmers for upcoming swim meets, I am looking forward for exciting meets.

Please check our web page for more information on upcoming meets and more at

www.heritageaquaticteam.com

AQUA I Advanced                       Coach Grady

February is an important month of competition for our team. Please sign up for the Plantation Swim Meet on February 9-10. Division II Meet will be held at Lake Lytal on February 23-24. In order to compete at Junior Olympics, you need to achieve a qualifying time. I will determine Junior Olympic Relays based off the Plantation and Lake Lytal meets. Parents, please help assist me in getting our swimmers running shoes, shorts, T-shirts and water bottle on dryland days (Tuesday-Thursday). Thanks for all of your support of HAT!

AQUA I Intermediate                    Coach Khris

Hello parents and swimmers! How are you all!

We have started the new year with a few meets right of the bat, and with very little time to get back in swimming shape. So it is understanding that our times are not as fast as they were before the holydays, being that we have swam so little. But it is time to get back to it! That is why the more practices we go to the faster we will get in shape and back to dropping times left and right! Remember practice makes perfect! So let’s put some sweat and hard work into it and swim as much as we can so in the next coming meets we bust out some good swims! And show who is the big fish in the water!

WHAT YOU LACK IN TALENT CAN BE MADE UP WITH DESIRE, HUSTLE, AND GIVING 110 PERCENT ALL THE TIME.”

Team Sweat Shirts will be available soon. If you are interested please contact Coach Carole for order form.

AQUA I Beginner                           Coach Carole

Practice does make it perfect. Try to send your child to practice at least twice a week, as your child gets older he will eventually need to increase to three times a week. Swimmers are doing great! We have been fortunate for the warm weather this winter, the pool is at 84F. We’ve had few sessions on diving, which we do on the warmest days. We are getting better every practice. Little things that you may not see, such as streamline under water when children leaves the wall or dive, pull out for breaststroke, finishing touch at the wall for the different strokes. Their speed will come with time and experience. This is a beautiful stage in their swimming career, enjoy it. We have many amazing little swimmers! They are doing 1000 yards and more per practice (40 laps and more). They are working on lots of stroke technique and endurance. We are also working on counting strokes per lap, trying to make longer strokes. By keeping a regular practice schedule the easiest it will become for your child to practice, the faster he/she will adapt to the team and teammates and really feel part of it. Our next 8 and Under Meet will be on April 18 at Pembroke Pines.

AQUA II News                                  Coach Tan

We had first double practice for my swimmers to improve their endurance work for upcoming season. Also, our swimmers are working on their goal set for 2008 by the season. It is very important that each and every swimmer to have goals for their performance. My goals for our group is to have best attitude towards each and every practice. Practice is not easy but having a goals will help focus doing practice with better results at meets.

following swimmers have turned in their SWIM A THON form with their money raised for this annual event. Thank you for your support! Our swimmer’s time for 200 laps (5,000yards) will be reported to USA Swimming. If you have not yet to return your fund, please return to Coach Carole or Coach Tan as soon as possible. AQUA I  Advanced          Coach Grady

Happy New Year everyone! Welcome back swimmers and parents!! I hope everyone had a gratifying and fulfilling holiday season!!!  2008 is here and it is time to begin preparing for the Division II and Junior Olympic Swimming Championships. The yellow team shall be training until 5:30p.m. and the Blue team shall be training until 6:00p.m.

On Tuesday and Thursday we shall begin practice with 30-40 minutes of dry land exercises. Swimmers need to wear proper athletic shoes, shorts, and t-shirts during these exercise sessions. Improper foot attire can injure the feet! Florida winter is upon us and it is crucial that our swimmers dress warmly after practice. A serious cold or pneumonia can really hurt a swimmers health and season. This is a short season. We have three meets, therefore; it is important to compete whenever a swim meet is scheduled. Parents, I want you to know that I am giving your child my best effort daily. I know all of you want your children to succeed and so do I! However, all children improve at different rates. I tend to take a long range view. It is my job to teach your child how to swim properly with good stroke mechanics and to learn how to swim different types of races. The philosophy of this program is to teach good mechanics and have fun at this level. It is very normal for swimmers to reach plateaus where their times stay the same. After some training and stroke refinements they all seem to have a great meet where they improve in most if not all of their races. The best role as a parent can play during a plateau is to be positive and encourage their child to have fun. Heritage Aquatic Team has produced some highly competitive swimmers the past few years. I believe there are some incredibly talented swimmers in the age group program presently. The swimmers will improve and have great success in 2008 if they are consistent in practice and they are praised and hugged daily by their parents! Thanks for all of your support!!

AQUA I Beginner             Coach Carole

Thank you for your generous gifts for the Holidays!  Hope you are enjoying your holiday break.  Our next meet will be for the 8 and Under on February 1st – I am thinking to change the location to Sunrise Aquatic Complex since it will be much convenient and easier for everyone on a Friday night. If unable to attend please send us a note /e-mail otherwise your child will be entered in the meet automatically 14 days prior to that meet.

You will receive the entry sheet with all the information needed (ex.: time, place etc.) the week of the meet. Those entries will not be refundable.  Our swimmers are doing great! So far, I have very little attendance during the break. I am looking forward to resume our normal schedule and training. Wishing you all a Happy New Year!   See you soonJ Coach Carole

AQUA I Intermediate       Coach Khris

Hello H. A. T. swimmers!! I Hope that all of you had a great holyday break and lots of fun!

It is a start of a new year, and with this new year we have some small changes to our practice times! Practice will still start at 03:30 pm everyday and end at 05:00 pm. except on Wednesdays and Fridays that it will end at 05:30 pm. That way we can get some extra time to get even faster for our upcoming meets! I am very glad to see the amount of progress I see and all my swimmer in the short time I have been with the team and I am very sure that we will have a great winter season!

Swimmers remember to bring your own goggles and fins, it is important for you to have all your swimming gear ready for each practice. Especially your goggles! Because when the time to race comes you want to be comfortable with them. (the goggles you practice with should be the ones you race with) Also if you have long hair wear a swim cap. Your hair holds lots of water and will slow you down if you don’t have a cap on.

And remember!!! IF YOU TRAIN HARD, YOU’LL NOT ONLY BE HARD, YOU’LL BE HARD TO BEAT TOO!!!

Next season nine swimmers will be leaving the age group program to create a new senior program with Coach Tan. My role with each of you will change as I will assist Coach Tan from 5:30-6;30. However, I have the most confidence that you are ready for a new challenge and will have great success. I am blessed to work with some of you for 4 years and I want to thank each of you for the honor of challenging you to be the best swimmer - human being possible - all of you surpassed my expectations.

AQUA I News Coach Carole

We had a good 8 and Under Meet at Pembroke Pines. Girls relay came in 2nd and Boys 1st ? Congratulations! Outstanding swims for James Burnette, Graham D’Oyley, Chloe Grabow, Lauren Tait, and Jorge Fajardo. Working hard during practices always pays off at the end. Improvement depends on several factors: focus, outside temperature, training attitude and stroke corrections. By changing the strokes and improving the strokes(which we do during practice by doing lots of drills), it will take a little while before the swimmer gets use to the new strokes and starts going faster. Be patient they have lots of time. Our next 8 and Under Meet will be on April 13th ? Friday at Pine Island Pool.

Few things that I want to work in this coming weeks, dives from the blocks and backstroke finishes.

Coral Springs ABC Meet – Great Job swimmers!

I am very proud of the way you raced at Coral Springs.  February is a very important month of training for our team.  If we are to have a great Division II and Junior Olympic meets it is crucial we get to practice and do a great job.  The Sub-JO Meet in Sunrise and the Plantation Age Group Meet are important competitions.  Let’s make it a goal to get at least 50% best times at those meets.  I know we can accomplish this goal if we put our best efforts forwards.
